Amateurs and Professionals

Let me start with saying there’s nothing wrong with being an amateur. It means you’re in the game. The problem is if you’re an amateur that confuses yourself as a professional.

So, what’s the difference? When it comes to marketing, the difference between an amateur and a professional is that the professional has a marketing strategy and the amateur is just winging it.

A marketing strategy is your map to get from where you are to where you want to go with the resources you have available. If you want to get from Erie, PA to Denver, CO there are a lot of paths to get there, there are many modes of transportation that can help you get there, and your decisions are directly related to the time and money you have to make the trip.

Marketing is no different. There are plenty of marketing vehicles that can help you reach your business goals. Everything from Facebook advertising, to LinkedIn organic posts to TV and radio commercials. All of them have their own purpose and their own costs. But to answer the question of which ones you should use, you need a strategy. Without one, you’ll cave to the first good salesman that comes along. I know you think you won’t, but so did all of our customers that bought radio ads and didn’t know why.

When it comes to marketing, the difference between amateurs and professionals is that professionals have a strategy, a plan to get you from point A to point B.

It’s time to create a strategy. It’s time to make a plan. It’s time to get serious about your marketing.
